2026-27 Tryout Registration


Spring tryouts for U11, U13, U15, and U18 competitive teams begin April 15, 2026.
The current tryout schedule is available on the NGHA website.and will be updated as new information becomes available.

U9 Competitive Update

U9 competitive tryouts, pathways, and House League sort-outs will take place in September 2026. Details and registration will be shared later this summer.

Key Dates & Registration

Registration:
Registration opens on March 24, 2026 and will close at 11:59 PM on April 7, 2026.

How to Register

  1. Complete the tryout pre-registration form

  2. Complete RAMP tryout registration and fee payment

Important:

Tryout registration and fees must be completed and paid in full by April 7 @ 11:59 PM. Participants will not be permitted to try out unless fees are paid in full.

Please note: Tryout fees are separate from season registration fees. Full-season registration will take place after teams are selected.

Tryout Fees

Fees are flat and non-refundable and include all tryout sessions. 

Players released from AA or A may continue at lower tiers without additional tryout fees.

U13-U18

  • AA - $300

  • A - $225

  • BB & below - $175

U11

  • AA - $225

  • A/BB - $200

  • B & below - $150

All U11 players will participate in one on-ice skills session as part of the tryout process.

Tryout Requirements

Eligibility & Documentation

Players who played with another OWHA-affiliated association last season must submit a Permission to Skate (PTS) or a formal release to both Competitive Director 1 and Competitive Director 2 prior to their first session.

Note: No new out-of-province players will be accepted for the 2026-2027 season (except current NGHA competitive players)

Tryout Jerseys

NGHA-issued tryout jerseys are required.

  • Jerseys must be purchased through RAMP registration if not already owned

  • Jerseys are not sold at the rink

Players will not be permitted on the ice without completed registration, payment, and required documentation.

  

 

Evaluation and team selection

Selection Process

Teams are selected through a structured evaluation process led by the Selection Committee with oversight from the NGHA Competitive Committee.

Selection Committee

Each division’s committee includes:

  • Head Coach (may bring one independent evaluator)

  • Up to four paid, non-parent evaluators

  • One NGHA Competitive Committee representative

Final rosters are approved by the Competitive Committee.

Evaluation Criteria

Players are evaluated on:

  • Physical Skills: Skating, Passing, Shooting, Stickhandling

  • Game Play: Hockey sense, Compete level, Intensity, Play away from the puck

Note: Individual feedback is not provided following tryouts.



 

Rosters and releases
    • Player releases will be posted on the NGHA website

  • Head Coaches will contact players selected for the final roster directly

    • Families are asked to observe the 24-hour rule following announcements

    Selection decisions are final and not subject to appeal.




     

    Tryout attendance

    Players are expected to attend all scheduled sessions for their division and tier.

    If a player cannot attend due to illness or injury, they should notify Competitive Director 1 and Competitive Director 2 as soon as possible and before the session(s) the player will miss. Medical clearance may be required before returning to the ice.

    Players missing sessions for non-medical reasons are not guaranteed placement.
