We're excited to welcome both returning and new players to our second Senior House League season. Our program is built around fun, fitness, friendship, and competitive hockey in a positive and inclusive environment. Whether you're returning after many years away from the game or you've been playing regularly, we look forward to seeing you on the ice!
Who can play?
The Nepean Girls Hockey Association’s senior house league program is open to players aged 18 and older of all skill levels. Whether you're a beginner, recreational player, or experienced competitor, there is a place for you in our program.
What is the goal of our senior house league program?
Our primary focus is:
Our goal is to create a welcoming, positive hockey experience for players of all skill levels.
When does the season start?
The season will begin in late September/early October, and will run through March.
A detailed schedule will be shared before the season begins.
How many games are played?
Teams generally play one game per week. Depending on scheduling and holidays, there may occasionally be bye weeks or additional games. Players can expect to play approximately 20 games.
When are games typically scheduled?
Generally, games will be scheduled Sunday evenings between 8 and 10 p.m.
Depending on the final number of teams, games may also be scheduled on Saturday evenings between 8 and 9 p.m.
Occasionally, game times may vary depending on arena availability.
Playoffs
The playoff format will be dependent on the final number of teams rostered, and will be shared later in the season.
How are teams created?
Teams are balanced to promote fair and competitive games throughout the season.
We consider:
Can I request to play with a friend?
Yes, we guarantee one friend request per player. All requests must be mirrored (both players must request each other) in order to be guaranteed.
Additional friend requests may also be considered, depending on team structure and balancing, but are not guaranteed.
It’s important to note that we will do our best to create balanced teams; however, this may not always be possible due to the added complexity of accommodating friend requests. While balance remains important to us, our survey results have shown that, at this level, players value the opportunity to play with friends more than having balanced teams. Considering this, our goal will be to allow mutual friend requests while still aiming for the best balance possible within those constraints.
Can teams change during the season?
Yes. If injuries or player availability significantly affect team balance, adjustments may be made.
I've never played hockey before. Can I join?
Absolutely!
One of the key goals of our Senior HL program is to create a fun, inclusive environment for all players of all skill levels — ultimately we want to encourage women to stay active in the sport for longer.
I played competitive hockey growing up, can I still join?
Yes, absolutely. Our senior house league program is recreational, but open to players aged 18 and older. It’s about staying active and having fun.
What equipment is required?
Full hockey equipment is mandatory. This includes a CSA-approved helmet, full face protection and a neck guard.
Jerseys will be loaned to players for the season.
The NGHA’s Equipment policy can be found here.
What if I can't make a game?
Players will be expected to notify their team as early as possible through the team's communication platform (RAMP).
Consistent attendance helps ensure balanced games.
What happens if my team is short players?
The league may use substitute players in accordance with league policies to maintain fair competition.
Players will be expected to respect teammates, opponents, and officials. The goal is to support a positive team environment.
All players are expected to follow the league's Code of Conduct throughout the season. Unsportsmanlike behaviour, abusive language, or dangerous play will not be tolerated.
How will I receive information?
Teams typically communicate through email or the RAMP App.
League-wide updates will also be sent by email.
Can I help with the league?
Absolutely!
